People can even organise Pitru Gayatri for the peace of their ancestors. It is rewarding to Feed dogs, cows, ants and crows on Amavasya day. It is meritorious to perform hawan and yajna on this day. Those who are unable to visit holy places to take a dip in Ganga river, they invite Brahmin or priest at home for Pitru Tarpan or Pitru Puja and offer him food, clothes and Dakshina. This is an auspicious day to perform Pind Daan and Pitru Tarpan. After taking bath, devotees offer Arghya to Lord Surya on this day. Most of the people visit holy places to take a dip in holy river Ganga.
Wake up early in the morning and take a sacred bathe. People who are influenced by Saturn and under the Shani Sadhe Sati or Maha Dasha, are advised to light a diya with mustard oil under the Peepal tree. People who have a bad placement of Moon in their birth chart, must offer water to Moon and take a holy dip in Ganga river.
